Powis Square is one of the smallest squares in Brighton, built c1850 round a green space which came under corporation control in 1887 following the 1884 Brighton Improvement Act. The two K6-type telephone boxes are 'listed buildings’!  

One of the charms of the square is the changes brought by the seasons.

The spring bulbs were planted when the French firm Ecovert had the contract for parks and gardens. The managing director lived at number 7!!

Originally trees were planted round the edge of the grassed area. When some of these older trees were removed, the Council replanted in the centre. This led to much debate as to whether the Square should be allowed to become a 'woodland grove'.

Autumn often provides spectacular sunsets. But clearing leaves from drains and gutters is a major headache- especially for Heather,our wonderful street cleaner.

Temporary winter residents in the Square are becoming more frequent.
