Hormuzd Rassam's children
Theresa Rassam
D'Oyly Carte opera company
By Carolyn Sansbury
Hormuzd and Annie had six surviving children - five girls and a boy.
Their eldest daughter, Theresa, named after Hormuzd's mother, was born in 1871. She grew into a very striking-looking woman, and became a professional singer, singing all the lead contralto roles at the D'Oyly Carte opera company from1902-1907.
Her sister Sarah was also a musician, and played the violin. So if you had walked past their house at 7 Powis Square, you would probably have heard music!
There were two more daughters, Mary and Annie Ferida, and then a son, Anthony. Anthony joined the army and served in New Zealand.
The youngest daughter, Nora, was born in Brighton when Hormuzd was 61 years old! And she was married in the church at Steyning in 1909, a year before Hormuzd died.
